Treating the

Thyroid issues can be hard to detect. We know what to look for.

What is the thyroid?

The thyroid is a butterfly shaped endocrine gland in the throat and is instrumental in regulating many hormones in the body, specifically those having to do with metabolism. When it is not healthy, it can cause a variety of symptoms that appear unrelated.

What hormones come from the thyroid?

The thyroid is responsible for four primary hormones: thyroxine (T4), triiodothyronine (T3), reverse triiodothyronine (RT3), and calcitonin.

To detect imbalances and insufficiencies stemming from the thyroid, we often run blood tests that monitor these four hormones. Together, these play a role in regulating the following body functions:

Metabolism

Heart rate

Breath rate

Digestion

Body temperature adaptation

Brain development & mental agility

Skin, hair, and bone health

Fertility and libido

How do I know if something is wrong with my thyroid?

Thyroid issues can be difficult to detect, and may often present themselves as a slew of unrelated symptoms. They may accrue slowly over time and go unnoticed.

Symptoms can include:

Fatigue

Hair loss

Coarse  or brittle hair/skin

Constipation

Dry skin

Weight gain

Puffy face

Low libido

Sensitivity to cold temperatures

Muscle or joint pain

Digestive issues

Weakness

Brain fog

Intense PMS & irregular period

Memory issues

How do we fix it?

The first step in healing the thyroid is to get accurate data from recent lab tests. We check the levels of the hormones secreted by your thyroid gland and compare them to the healthy average for individuals like you. Though they are not produced in the thyroid gland, we may also test estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, insulin, and cortisol. By doing this, we rule out other possible causes for your symptoms. We will then introduce herbs, supplements, and minerals -- coupled with dietary and lifestyle changes -- that will help spur your thyroid to produce more or less of the hormones affected. This first phase will typically last a few weeks. Once your body has adjusted to the initial regimen, we will run blood tests again to certify that things are improving.
